ABOUT YOUR COACH
BENJAMIN MATHEWS
Benjamin Mathews is an award-winning filmmaker, actor, and acting coach working professionally across film, television, theatre, and performance training.
As the founder of Acting Mastery, Benjamin has trained thousands of actors — from complete beginners through to working professionals booking major film, television, and theatre projects around the world. With over fifteen years experience as a coach, Ben has taught at many of Australia’s leading drama schools, including NIDA. He hosts The Acting Mastery Podcast and Acting Mastery has since grown into one of Australia’s leading acting communities, with an online audience of more than 241,000 actors globally.
As an actor, Ben has worked across theatre, television, and film, and most recently was cast in an upcoming Netflix feature alongside Mark Wahlberg and Riz Ahmed. He trained at the prestigious Atlantic Theater Company in New York, studied directing and screenwriting at AFTRS, and has studied with many of the industry’s leading acting teachers across New York, LA, London, and Sydney.
As a filmmaker, his work has screened at the Cannes Film Festival, and he became the first Australian ever nominated for the Student Academy Awards. Most recently, his short film Project Hourglass won three awards at Tropfest, including the People’s Choice Award, and Tropfest Runways, a career-accleration award for Ben. Margot Robbie served as jury president and James Cameron was on the judging panel.
Ben has written and directed television for MTV and ABC, works as a commercial director, and recently had a television series picked up by two major production companies in Sydney, and has raised financing for his debut feature film.
Ben Mathews’ insight, generosity, care and talent make him the ideal teacher for any acting student committed to growth. Throughout my time working with him, I learnt so much; lessons that come up frequently in my work today and continue to reveal themselves. He is a wonderful teacher and human, and I wholeheartedly recommend his classes.
